Can’t we agree that gender essentialists and gender constructionists are both right? That is, having testicles has some effect on the gender you will probably have. But, it doesn’t determine your gender 100 percent of the time.
Having XX chromosomes means you will probably be more sexually attracted to people with XY chromosomes.
Sex and gender both have bi-modal distributions with very high peaks and the correlation is really really strong between the two distributions, even before we layer on constructionist theory.
Social constructs just amplify what is already true to a great degree and unfortunately, this can be harmful, especially for those people who are not near the peaks in the distributions.
So, let’s tone down the amplification. Maybe as hunters and gatherers, it was a helpful construct, but we don’t need it now. But, let’s also not pretend we have a bell curve.
