Yes, HB2 is a good example. I’d love a federal law that prohibited identifying sex on the birth certificate. It only narrows down the population by half as a form of identity anyway. Even blood type would make more sense if that is the reason for it.
I live in Asia and know a lot of trans people here. They seem to navigate the bathroom situation just fine and not keen to see the western style trans-activism coming here. There is an expression here that fits what you are talking about. “The nail that sticks up gets hammered down”. Frankly, I think a less militant approach would work better in the long run, but I can see why young trans people don’t want to be patient. In Asia, trans people are less legally accepted but more socially accepted in my experience as an observer.
